Annemie Vandaele

Biography of Annemie Vandaele, author of the children's picture book "Little Meadow Mouse", published by Clavis Publishing, New York.

Annemie Vandaele

I am Annemie Vandaele, married with two children, born and raised in a picturesque town in West Flanders near the North Sea. It was there that my love for language and my love for people have grown, step by step and along many roads.

In 1996, those roads led me to Leuven, where I received a licentiate in Germanic languages and a candidate in religious studies. Not only did I acquire knowledge there, but I also sharpened my pen and my outlook on life.

In 2002, I started working as a teacher in a Don Bosco School, which gave me a lot of satisfaction. A couple of years later, I was offered a job at the communications unit of a Don Bosco School in Dutch-speaking Belgium. I took up my pen again and became a copywriter, editor-in-chief, proofreader, author, columnist and webmaster.

But gradually I also wanted to go over the lines of institutional structures. I started searching for a way – my way – to put flesh on my passion for language, children and young people. More and more these components started looking like a tripod stool: take one leg away and it all falls over.

With great enthusiasm I started teaching again. Since 2012 I am an instructor at the St Aloysius College in Ninove. But I did not stop writing. In 2013, I published my first picture book: The Tall Small Chameleon. My second picture book will be published in the summer of 2014.

Furthermore, I lend my pen to people who have ideas, but cannot find the words. And lastly, I love improving people’s command of the language. I give courses and private lessons in Dutch and English. I teach people in their own way and at their own pace – I guess the North Sea has taught me that.

Annemie Vandaele combines her love for language and her love for people in her teaching and writing. Both passions strengthen each other. This becomes visible in her poetic, strong stories.
